Years the moratorium on Newfoundland and Labrador’s commercial fishery for northern cod was in place until it was lifted in June. However, the move represents only a small increase in fishing above the exceptions already allowed in recent years. This year, the catch will be capped at 18,000 tonnes, well below the 250,000 tonnes hauled in during the late 1980s.
