Fishing legends Jimmy Houston and Roland Martin are coming!
The first-ever Outdoor Canada Show is just 10 days away and one of the many things I’m really looking forward to is meeting Americans Jimmy Houston and Roland Martin, two true giants of sportfishing. As Fish’n Canada’s Angelo Viola puts it, they’re the Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr of fishing. Along with Angelo and a host of other Canadian TV fishing celebs, the pair will be appearing at the Outdoor Canada Show on Saturday, November 27. In particular, they’ll be competing in a fun event we have planned: the Fishin’ For Answers Quiz Show. You can get all the details on our Web site.
The host of Fishing with Roland Martin on the Versus sports channel, Roland is the first-ever pro bass angler to be inducted into the three big U.S. fishing halls of fame: the International Game Fish Association Hall of Fame; the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame; and the Professional Bass Fishing Hall of Fame. Among his many accomplishments, he hold records for the most tournaments won (19), the most second-place BASS finishes (20) and the most BASS Angler of the Year titles (nine). In all, Roland has chalked up almost 100 top-10 finishes.
As for Jimmy Houston, he has been on the air for more than 30 years and currently hosts two TV shows: Jimmy Houston Outdoors (also on Versus, among other U.S. channels) and Jimmy Houston’s Adventures. Touted as “America’s favourite fisherman,” Jimmy has competed in 15 BASS Master Classics and he’s won the BASS Angler of the Year twice. Like Roland, he has also received sportfishing’s highest accolades, having been inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame, the Professional Bass Fishing Hall of Fame and the International Game Fish Association Hall of Fame. He’s also included in the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame, and in 1989 he was named King of Sports for Fishing. And if that weren’t enough, the Jim Thorpe Association recognized Jimmy as the Jim Thorpe Man of the Year in 2004.
Talk about living legends!
