Wildlife Habitat Canada awards presented
More news from Wildlife Habitat Canada on the heels of yesterday’s blog about the conservation group’s new alliance with the U.S.-based Wildlife Habitat Council. Today, the WHC announced the recipients of its six national stewardship awards for its Forest Stewardship Recognition Program and Countryside Canada Recognition Program.
Established in 1998, the Forest Stewardship Recognition Program promotes sustainable forestry practices and biodiversity conservation in Canadian woodlands. The 2009 Forest Stewardship winners are:
- Galiano Conservancy Association, Galiano Island, B.C.
- Donna Cansfield, Ontario’s Minister of Natural Resources
- Elmer, Peter and Andrew MacKay, owners of the MacKay woodlands in Lorne, Nova Scotia
As for the nine-year-old Countryside Canada Stewardship Recognition Program, it recognizes and honours farmers, ranchers and rural landowners for their stewardship initiatives. The 2009 Countryside Canada award winners are:
- Dylan and Colleen Biggs, owners of TK Ranch, east-central Alberta
- Land Stewardship Centre of Canada, Edmonton
- Ernie Ewaschuk, a lifelong proponent of stewardship from St. Albert, Alberta
Congratulations all. Your work is appreciated by outdoorsfolk the country over.
