In an effort to promote safe boating practices, and find ways to stem preventable tragedies, the Canadian Safe Boating Council is hosting a symposium this weekend in Gravenhurst, Ontario.

Taking place from September 23 to 25 at the Marriott Residence Inn, Muskoka Wharf and Muskoka Heritage Centre, the annual event offers participants opportunities to exchange best practices, techniques, and discuss challenges and trends in recreational boating safety.

Several internationally-recognized boating safety organizations will be in attendance including Transport Canada, the Canadian and U.S. Coast Guards, Maritime New Zealand, the Australian Office of Boating Safety and Maritime Affairs and the UK’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Some of the symposium’s highlights include an on-water workshop and demonstrations on cold-water rescue and response, a panel discussion on future trends in boating, presentations on “Women as Influencers” and “Challenge of Changing Boaters’ Behaviour” and more.

The public is invited to watch the Beyond Cold Water Boot Camp at 1:30 PM on Monday, September 24th as well as the On-water Experience with Ontario Provincial Police at 3:30 PM. Both will take place at the Muskoka Wharf.
