Long-gun registry death watch: Bill C-19 expected to become law today
It’s time for the fat lady to sing. Last night, the Senate voted 50 to 27 in favour of Bill C-19 following the third and final reading. All that remains now to complete the legislative process, and bring the Ending the Long-gun Registry Act into law, is Royal Assent—the perfunctory final ceremony where the Governor General grants his blessing. (Note: GG David Johnston isn’t actually a fat lady, nor is he likely to sing. A signature will suffice.)
By all accounts, this final legislative step should take place sometime today, possibly even this morning.
As for last night’s Senate vote, click here to find out how the senators voted.
Now, anyone up for a registration card-burning party?

Get rid of the registry completely. The registry was started by the RCMP in the 1930's for handguns.Soon we will have to protect ourselves from our enemies of our country. Its obivious that the law can't protect us all the time.Put the money into immigration, control who is being given permission to enter our country with the prospect of harming our lives.Handguns are getting into Canada by being smuggled from the USA,sort of like prohbition was in the 1920's with Alcohol.I feel at this time gun control is outdated and most of the guns used in crimes are from the USA and not registered.Weather a gun is registered or not it does not matter.Criminals don't obey the law thats why they are called criminals. If you are not a criminal, weather a gun is registered or not will not matter. If the RCMP want something to control, protect us from who is being let into our country.

Actually you need a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) to buy a firearm in Canada, not the old FAC, which it replaced. You need to show your PAL to show that you, as an individual, are licensed to purchase a firearm. This is separate from the now dead long-gun registry, which only involved the registering of non-restricted rifles and shotguns themselves. Handguns and restricted firearms must still be registered. For complete details on the current regulations, visit the Canadian Firearms Program website: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/index-eng.htm
